Here’s a concise summary of the August 2026 Better Wetherby newsletter.
PLANNING LATEST:
• Stockeld Park – 210 homes: The planning hearing has been deferred again, with a new date still to be announced. Better Wetherby continues to oppose the application.
• Miller Homes & Gladman: There is still no change on the proposed 100 homes at Sicklinghall Road or 593 homes near Kirk Deighton. Planning applications are still awaited.
• Lidl development: Plans for the former Mercure Hotel site continue to progress, with amendments to the approved scheme currently being considered. No construction start date has yet been announced.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Major development proposals continue to affect Wetherby and its surroundings. Better Wetherby is continuing to press for proper consideration of their cumulative impact on the town, its infrastructure and its character.
COMMUNITY EVENTS:
• Wetherby Festival: Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 Festival, running from 2nd–10th October, with comedy, theatre, music, art, poetry and films.
• Wetherby History Series: The final talk takes place on 2nd September at Wetherby Methodist Church. Free entry.
ALSO WORTH KNOWING:
• Parking Charges: Leeds City Council has agreed to a full review of the parking charges introduced last year in Wetherby. A public consultation will form part of the review, with initial findings expected in November.
• Privas Way Petrol Station: The previous planning permission has now lapsed. No new application has been submitted, although options for improving the site are being explored.
• Leeds Woodland Consultation: Residents were invited to comment on proposed woodland creation and tree planting across Leeds.
