Here’s a concise summary of the September 2026 Better Wetherby newsletter.
PLANNING LATEST:
• Cross-boundary housing: More than 2,300 sites have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council’s Local Plan process. This does not mean they will be developed, but proposals around Wetherby remain a concern.
• Stockeld Park – 210 homes: The planning hearing has not yet been rescheduled. Better Wetherby continues to oppose the proposal alongside local councils and community groups.
• Mayoral planning powers: A Government consultation proposes giving regional mayors greater control over major planning applications, with potential implications for Wetherby.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Development proposals could affect Wetherby’s infrastructure, landscape and character. Better Wetherby is monitoring the plans and working with local partners to ensure the town’s concerns are heard.
COMMUNITY EVENTS:
• Wetherby Festival: 2nd–10th October, with comedy, theatre, music, craft, art, poetry and films.
• Man with a Pan: A six-week cooking course for men over 50 starts on 13th October. A few places remain.
ALSO WORTH KNOWING:
• Parking charges: Leeds City Council is reviewing charges at Wetherby’s Wilderness and Old Station car parks. Residents, businesses and visitors are encouraged to respond to the consultation.
• Volunteers wanted: Better Wetherby is seeking new Steering Committee members, particularly people who could help with the Chair, Secretary or Treasurer roles.
