Here’s a concise summary of the July 2026 Better Wetherby newsletter.
PLANNING LATEST:
• Cross-boundary housing: Leeds City Council has acknowledged concerns about the growing number of housing proposals around Wetherby. Leeds and North Yorkshire are now working together to assess cumulative impacts on transport, infrastructure and sustainability.
• Hallam/Stockeld Park – 210 homes: A planning hearing is still awaited. An earlier notification giving 21st July as the hearing date was issued in error.
• Miller Homes – 100 homes: The proposed development off Sicklinghall Road is still awaiting a formal planning application.
• Gladman – 593 homes: A public consultation has taken place on proposals for land off Hudson Way, but no planning application has yet been submitted.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Major housing proposals are emerging on several sides of Wetherby. Better Wetherby is pressing for a coordinated, plan-led approach so that the cumulative impact on roads, infrastructure and the character of the town is properly considered.
COMMUNITY EVENTS:
• History of Wetherby Talks: The next illustrated talk is on 28th July, with a final talk scheduled for 2nd September. Both are at Wetherby Methodist Church and are free to attend.
• Eco Fair & Drovers’ Day: Both June events were highly successful, with Better Wetherby thanking the organisers, volunteers and everyone who attended.
ALSO WORTH KNOWING:
• Parking Charges: Leeds City Council is considering a review of district parking charges, including Wetherby. Better Wetherby welcomes this as an important first step following strong local opposition.
• Leeds Local Plan: Residents are being encouraged to take part in the first consultation on the new Leeds Local Plan, which will guide development up to 2043.
• Better Wetherby: The organisation continues to campaign for Wetherby’s interests and encourages residents to stay informed and make their views heard.
