About Us.

Better Wetherby Partnership

Better Wetherby is a non-political partnership of local organisations and residents, formed in 2018 to help shape the future of Wetherby and its surrounding villages. We cherish our town’s green spaces, vibrant community, and local amenities - qualities that make Wetherby a great place to live and a target for large-scale development.

Our aim is simple:

To ensure that the physical character of Wetherby and District is both protected and developed for the benefit of the community, both now and for future generations.

What we do.

Scrutinise development

We independently and impartially review planning proposals, promoting only those that are appropriate and sustainable for the community.

Foster understanding

We help the community make informed decisions about planning and development, and ensure local voices are heard

Engage constructively

We work with local authorities, developers, and residents to achieve responsible growth and economic vitality.

Communicate clearly

We keep residents and stakeholders up to date on key issues and opportunities affecting our area.

Champion engagement

We raise awareness and encourage action to preserve and protect Wetherby’s natural and built environment.

Drive positive change

We take proactive steps to improve our town, supporting initiatives that enhance Wetherby’s character, sustainability, and community spirit.

Our Governance & Structure

Better Wetherby Partnership is coordinated by a volunteer Steering Group, supported by working groups and individual volunteers. Here’s how roles are typically divided:

Steering Group:

  • Sets the overall direction and strategy for the Partnership.

  • Coordinates responses to major planning applications and local consultations.

  • Oversees governance, partnerships, and community engagement.

  • Includes roles such as Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Working Groups:

  • Focus on specific topics like planning, transport, environment, and community events.

  • Review planning proposals, research issues, and prepare responses or recommendations.

  • Organise and support local events, campaigns, and public meetings.

We welcome all who share our commitment to a thriving, well-planned future for Wetherby.
