BW Newsletter – June 2026
Here’s a concise summary of the June 2026 Better Wetherby newsletter.
PLANNING LATEST:
Around 1,000 new homes proposed: Three major developments could add around 1,000 homes around Wetherby, including 210 at Stockeld Park, 100 at Sicklinghall Road and 593 near Kirk Deighton.
More development ahead? Better Wetherby is concerned that further proposals could eventually mean up to 5,000 additional homes around Wetherby.
Infrastructure: Concerns remain about the impact on roads, schools, healthcare and other local services. Better Wetherby is seeking funding for an independent highways study.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Wetherby is already experiencing significant housing growth. Better Wetherby believes further development must be matched by investment in infrastructure while protecting the town’s character and surrounding countryside.
COMMUNITY EVENTS:
Wetherby Eco Fair: 6th June at Wetherby Methodist Church.
Dementia Awareness Event: 11th June in Wetherby Market Place.
Drovers’ Day: 14th June – celebrating Wetherby’s historic links with cattle droving.
ALSO WORTH KNOWING:
Volunteers wanted: Better Wetherby is looking for people to help with planning, communications, social media and other activities.
Support our work: Funding is needed for specialist planning, highways and environmental advice as major development proposals progress.
