BW Newsletter – March 2026
Here’s a concise summary of the March 2026 Better Wetherby newsletter.
PLANNING LATEST
Stockeld Park / Spofforth Hill (210 homes): Hearing expected soon; application almost identical to the 2019 scheme rejected after a 4‑day inquiry. Several hundred objections submitted.
Sicklinghall Road – Miller Homes (100 homes): Consultation held Nov 2025; developers indicated an early‑2026 application, but none submitted yet.
Maltkiln New Settlement (up to 4,000 homes): BW raised concerns at Jan 2026 consultation — lack of school space, shops, parking, poor bus/rail provision, and risk of major congestion on the A59. Masterplan now goes to NYC Executive.
WHY IT MATTERS
NYC will decide all major boundary‑edge applications, despite the significant impact on Wetherby’s infrastructure and growth.
Approvals could trigger substantial expansion of the town.
COMMUNITY MATTERS
Chair’s Update: Brian Taylor becomes Acting Chair; BW continues strong opposition to the Stockeld Park application.
Road Safety: Residents (including BW) addressed Leeds City Council about dangerous roads near Crossley Street Primary School and surrounding streets. LCC’s response offers little prospect of action; BW will continue working with councillors.
HIGHWAYS
Potholes: Residents encouraged to report issues via Leeds City Council’s online tool; photos and multiple reports help speed repairs. Vehicle damage claims can also be submitted.
